Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance

The Department of Transitional Assistance provides individuals and families with food assistance, job assistance, and cash assistance. The department’s assistance line is 1-877-382-2363. There is also a local transitional assistance office at 131 Davidson Street in Lowell, and the phone number is 978-446-2400.

Project Bread

Project Bread’s website provides a wealth of useful information. It can help you find out how to get food stamps, and they provide additional information on getting help. You can also call their FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels focuses on caring for individuals whose diminished mobility makes it hard to shop for food, prepare meals or socialize with others. Generally programs serve adults 60 and over, although age requirements can vary by program and areas served. People who are mobile enough to join others for meals in a group setting where seniors congregate, like senior centers and cafes, are encouraged to do so; while others less mobile may qualify for home delivery.

Chelmsford Senior Center and Council on Aging Resources

The Chelmsford Senior Center is located at 75 Groton Road in North Chelmsford and is open to senior citizens, 60 years and over, from Chelmsford and area communities. Please see here for a full list of resources available for seniors.
